Dr Mohamed Elnaggar chaired the session
Health Innovation North West Coast has joined forces with charity HEART UK and Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board to help improve the treatment of cholesterol in the region.
The Tackling Cholesterol Together Roadshow in Preston was part of a series of events staged by HEART UK, the UK’s only cholesterol charity, and drew dozens of clinicians from across the primary and secondary sectors.
They were able to share best practice and discuss challenges in areas such as assessing risk, managing primary and secondary prevention, identifying familial hypercholesteroleamia, the interface between primary and secondary care, myth-busting about statins and lipid-lowering therapies.
The event was chaired by Dr Mohamed Elnaggar, Health Innovation North West Coast’s Clinical Lipid Lead for Lancashire and South Cumbria.
Dr Elnaggar said: “Cardiovascular disease is a significant cause of death and disability and is a particular concern in our part of the country.
“The roadshow was an excellent opportunity to bring people together to share ideas and make sure the very latest thinking and best practice reaches every part of the region.”
The roadshow series is a national educational initiative aligned with the NHS Long Term Plan and Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Programme. The Plan’s ambition is to prevent over 150,000 heart attacks, strokes and dementia cases by 2029.
