The Optimisation and Stabilisation of the Preterm Infant workstream supports the national adoption and spread of the care pathway consisting of nine evidence-based interventions set out by the British Association of Perinatal Medicine (BPMA).
This workstream helps to ensure the preterm perinatal optimisation care pathway is spread and adopted across England, as well as to increase overall compliance with every component of the care bundle.
There is strong evidence that babies who receive all aspects of the care bundle have better outcomes, a key aim of MatNeo SIP is to reduce the variation in outcomes for mothers and babies across England.

We have been supporting Maternity and Neonatal improvement teams to implement this care bundle since November 2020 across the North West Coast.
We have collaborated with the North West Neonatal Operational Delivery Network (NWNODN) to provide joint support including the creation of a dashboard of improvement data for each element of the care bundle that can be accessed by each local provider to inform local quality improvement projects.
We have supported through coaching and teaching of quality improvement methodology and have supported the creation of local learning networks across the North West in collaboration with Health Innovation Manchester (HiNM), NWNODN and Maternity and Neonatal units across the North West. This has included various online events and this year we hosted our third annual in person event in collaboration with HiNM, NWNODN and Liverpool Women’s hospital.
