The first Maternity and Neonatal Safety Improvement programme Patient Safety Network event of 2022. As part of this workstream, we will be exploring clinical escalation and launching the Each Baby Counts escalation toolkit.

This work contributes to the national ambition to reduce the rates of maternal and neonatal deaths, stillbirths and brain injuries that occur during or soon after birth by 50% by 2025.

Why is this important?
This event will be used to further build on our work as a mini-collaborative in our Maternity and Neonatal Patient Safety Network to drive improvement in the rates of the early recognition and management of deterioration across the North West Coast.

Early recognition and management of deterioration of women or babies is one of the Maternity and Neonatal Safety Improvement drivers. The aim is for trusts to show a measurable improvement by 2023.

By attending this event you will be introduced to some new escalation tools that can be used in maternity and neonatal services to identify early deterioration. This includes feedback from the national team on the development and progress of the new NEWTT 2 (Newborn Early Warning Trigger and Track) tool and the national MEWS tools (Maternity Early Warning Score). Each Baby Counts Learn and Support will present the recently launched escalation toolkit which includes tools to support framing conversations of escalation in the clinical setting.

We will consider what good escalation looks like within the framework of identify / communicate / act that can be used in local clinical settings to identify potential escalation issues that could be a focus for improvement and we will also introduce our coaching for culture programme aimed at maternity and neonatal teams.

There are limited tickets available for this event, so please register early to avoid disappointment.
