Liverpool is unique for neonatal services because babies are born in one hospital, Liverpool Women’s, but if they need specialist services those are provided in a different hospital, Alder Hey. We have been working to develop a neonatal unit on the Alder Hey site for the last several years with a plan to open the unit in 2022/3.

When COVID hit we had to switch to telephone consultations for therapy outpatient appointments and we could no longer deliver ‘back to fitness’ classes, circuit and education sessions in a face to face way.

I am 23 and had a kidney transplant just over a year ago; it was given to me indirectly by my step mum through a chain of people. It only has 28 per cent functionality but that’s 28 per cent more than I had before! I’ve been able to travel to Jordan, France and Spain climbing and adventuring; I really appreciate what I’ve got and the difference it makes is insane.

At the time of writing, I have yet to read the Public Health England report entitled ‘Beyond the data – understanding the impact of COVID-19 on BAME communities’. This publication was delayed for reasons that are not entirely clear. But from the clips that I’ve seen on the news, it seems to say what I believe has been known for some time.
