Overview
Evaluation Fundamentals is an online course to support your journey through evaluating your innovation. The course covers types of evaluation and examples of the methodology you could undertake. It also details the ways you can use your findings to optimally demonstrate the value of your innovation in a health and care setting.
Learning outcomes
This course will help you start building the evidence you need for your potential customers to make an informed decision to adopt your innovation. You’ll receive practical tips on how to plan and get started.
You'll learn:
- about the different types of evaluation in order to hone in on the one that is the best fit for your product/offer,
- how to optimise your evaluation results to use them to benefit you commercially.
Course materials are not intended to be prescriptive as products and solutions will have very diverse evaluation needs.
You can receive credits for 14 CPD hours on completion of this course if requested.
Audience
We welcome innovators from across the North West Coast who have a specific health or social care innovation that is ready or nearly ready for evaluation.
Details
This course is a mix of self-directed online learning and weekly coached sessions. It runs for 8 weeks, with a time commitment of 1-3 hours per week.
There are 7 modules, which include reading, resources and a challenge to stimulate your thinking and evaluation planning.

- Understanding efficacy and effectiveness
- Efficiency and economic evaluation
- Bringing it all together in the real world (real world validation)
- Planning an evaluation
- Optimising the impact of your results
There will be a discussion forum where you can chat with your peers and ask questions from Health Innovation North West Coast and our academic partners.
Instructors
There will be weekly sessions with an experienced coach. You can also access additional advice and support from Health Innovation North West Coast’s Enterprise and Growth team and our academic partners if needed.
